Mayfield has been a very busy place during the past week. Our Lady Crowned Credit Union held a very successful Open Day on last Saturday to mark its golden jubilee and its ongoing commitment to serve the families and community. Then, on last Sunday, the church was full to capacity to mark the ordination to the permanent diaconate of David Lane. A fantastic reception and celebration followed afterwards and was blessed with beautiful sunshine. On Wednesday a wonderfully successful Mayfield Expo took place in Mayfield Sports Complex and which embraced and included a myriad of local clubs, societies and voluntary groups, all committed to lifelong learning and our community. These events were brilliantly supported and are just part of the ‘story’ of Mayfield and Our Lady Crowned parish. The future of our community and parish looks bright and assured built on the solid foundations of the voluntary community, cultural, sporting and parish groups. May God bless all in our community. May God bless all those who continue to volunteer their time and talents to the Mayfield area. We celebrate recent events and commit ourselves to maintaining a special place, a special community and a very special parish.
It is with great joy that we welcome Rev. David Lane to assist at 12 noon Mass on this Sun. Sept. 17th. Along with Rev. Frank McKevitt from Turners Cross Parish, David was ordained by Bishop Buckley on last Sunday afternoon in the North Cathedral. It was such a joyful and uplifting celebration truly enhanced by the singing of our own church choir. Numerous people from other parishes remarked on the evident parish spirit of Our Lady Crowned. David will become a regular and familiar face here in Our Lady Crowned occasionally preaching the homily, celebrating baptismal ceremonies, assisting at wedding and funeral Masses. May God bless David and Siobhán, their family, the Lane and Carne families and everyone in our beloved church and parish. May we all celebrate everything that is good about our parish at our celebration this afternoon. Sincere thanks to the parish Pastoral Council and numerous volunteers for arranging such a special event. May God bless all involved.
The images of death, suffering and consequent fear from Barcelona have shocked people during the past week. The physical suffering and bereavement for individuals and families are impossible to comprehend or imagine. It surely is beyond words and description. Our faith in God is shaken and virtually unable to cope with, or scarcely comprehend, such events. However, at the centre of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the triumph of hope over despair and love over fear. We have to dig very hard to reach this truth in the light of our own personal suffering and the irrationality of terrorist attacks. We dig deep and we call out to God to help us in our own lives, to comfort the bereaved in Barcelona and ultimately to reach the hardened hearts of those intent on destruction of people’s lives. God, our Father, we call on you at our Mass this weekend, in our parish, in our families to reach out to the bereaved and truly show us your triumph over fear and death. May those who have died so tragically rest in the peace of the Lord.
