Preparations are going well for the Songs of Faith 2015 Concert to be held in our church on Sun. Nov. 22nd @ 7pm.  Young people from different parishes in the Cork area and from West Cork have attended two rehearsals under the direction of Ian Callinan, musical composer and director.  It will be a great occasion.

Please support these young people by coming along to the concert.  There is no admission fee but you may make a donation on the night.  It is great to see young people giving their time, their talents and their goodwill to this event.  Please support them and you will be inspired.

Pope Francis completes his visit to Cuba and the USA this weekend.  The visit has been a wonderful success.  He has spoken to the House of Congress and then immediately afterwards looked even more happy to eat with the homeless of Washington.  He treats everyone equally, with great love and profound respect.  Memorably he prayed with people outside the House of Congress reaching out to people of no faith and belief asking them ‘to send good wishes in his direction’.

Today we not only ‘send good wishes’ in his direction but we also pray for our Holy Father and pray for him in his courageous and powerful leadership.  God bless Pope Francis.

The final surface was completed on the main church roof during the past week.  The scaffolding around the church will now be removed this week.  Work will commence on the sacristy roof this coming week and will be completed quickly.

Sincere thanks for your patience during these ongoing major works.  All external works should now be completed very soon.

Remembering those who have died by suicide and the suicide bereaved after 7pm Mass on next Sat. Sept. 12th.  There will be a brief prayer service and symbolic balloon release after mass.  Please God our prayers, memories and gestures will ease the pain for many families who have been tragically bereaved.

Best wishes to Michael Joyce and all members of Our Lady Crowned Church choir who will sing at the Annual Cork Eucharistic Procession on this Sun. Jun. 7th.  People from several parishes, including Our Lady Crowned, will gather outside St. Patrick’s Church at 2.30pm.  Archbishop Kieran O’Reilly of Cashel will deliver the homily in Daunt’s Square.
